It has been recorded through series of memoirs and eye-witnesses that when the Imam returned from exile in January 1979 he was welcomed by millions of people in Tehran.
The authorities had to urge people from outlying areas not to come to Tehran because the city's services could not cope with such numbers.
It was on 12nd Bahman or 1st February 1979, when Imam Khomeini returned to Iran from Paris with a religious doctrine after 14 years of political exile.
Over 10 million people also joined his funeral procession after Imam’s heavenly departure in June 1989.
